Hyundai Theta Engine Settlement (2)

UPDATE:

Consumers who experienced Hyundai Theta engine problems may be able to benefit from a recent class action settlement.

The settlement benefits individuals who bought or leased any of the following vehicles: 2011-2018 and certain 2019 Hyundai Sonata, 2013–2018 and certain 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and 2014–2015, 2018, and certain 2019 Hyundai Tucson vehicles.

Class vehicles must have been equipped with or replaced with a genuine Theta II 2.0-liter or 2.4-liter gasoline direct injection engine within OEM specifications. The noted 2019 model year vehicles are eligible if they were manufactured before the Knock Sensor Detection System technology was incorporated into production.

According to the plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit, some Hyundai vehicles are prone to engine problems due to a defect. Allegedly, the Hyundai engine problems can include engine seizure, stalling, engine failure and engine fire.

The defect involves the connecting rod bearings in the gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines. According to the complaint, these connecting rod bearings can fracture and release metal debris into the engine oil. The oil filter is unable to filter everything out, meaning the contaminated oil is circulated through the engine, causing damage to components until the engine fails unexpectedly.

As the connecting rod bearings continue to fracture, the class action lawsuit claimed, “the acceptable tolerances between the bearings, the connecting rod, and the crankshaft rapidly deteriorate,” eventually leading to a “‘knocking’ sound.” In some cases, the piston can allegedly break through the engine block and other engine components can be damaged.

Unfortunately, the plaintiffs claim these incidents have been routinely denied coverage under Hyundai warranties. As a result, plaintiffs and other vehicle owners have allegedly been financially injured by the issue.

Hyundai has not admitted any wrongdoing, but has agreed to fund a Hyundai Theta engine settlement center to resolve the claims in a multidistrict litigation and class action lawsuit.

The Hyundai engine problems class action settlement provides a variety of relief options, including warranty extensions, repairs reimbursement, other forms of compensation, a rebate program and a $140 goodwill payment. More detailed information about the compensation options can be found in the “Potential Award” section below.

In order to receive benefits from the Hyundai Theta engine settlement center, Class Members must file a valid claim form by April 12, 2021. Depending on which compensation the claimant is seeking, claim forms may require vehicle VIN numbers, repair invoices and other documentation.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 31, 2020. The final approval hearing for the Hyundai Theta engine settlement center is Nov. 13, 2020.

Who’s Eligible

Individuals who bought or leased any of the following vehicles: 2011–2018 and certain 2019 Hyundai Sonata, 2013–2018 and certain 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and 2014–2015, 2018, and certain 2019 Hyundai Tucson vehicles.

Class vehicles must have been equipped with or replaced with a genuine Theta II 2.0 liter or 2.4 liter gasoline direct injection engine within OEM specifications. The noted 2019 model year vehicles are eligible if they were manufactured before the Knock Sensor Detection System technology was incorporated into production.

Several forms of compensation, including:

  • Warranty Extension: extends the powertrain warranty on Class vehicles to a lifetime warranty. The extension covers short block assembly, consisting of the engine block, crankshaft and bearings, connecting rods and bearings, and pistons.
  • Repairs reimbursement: a $140 goodwill payment along with full reimbursement for repairs will be available to Class Members.
  • Additional reimbursement: Class Members can collect full reimbursement for rental cars, towing and other expenses related to qualifying repairs.
  • Compensation for a reduction in trade in value: Vehicles that were traded in for a lower value as a result of an engine seizure, engine stall, engine noise, engine compartment fire or illumination of the oil lamp diagnosed as requiring repair of the engine block will allow Class Members to receive compensation. An additional $140 goodwill payment may also be available.
  • Compensation for engine fires: Engine fires will result in compensation for the value of the vehicle, with an additional $140 goodwill payment.
  • Rebates: Individuals who purchase a replacement vehicle due to an engine failure or fire can recover the following class action rebates:
    • for model year 2011 and 2012 Class Vehicles – $2,000;

I just inherited a 2013 Hyundai Elantra that had the same issue, the knocking noise and then the engine just died. Apparently the previous owner had gotten paperwork about the lawsuit but never filed it. It only has 106,000 miles on it but the Hyundai dealer says it won’t be covered under any warranty because I’m not the original owner. You would think they’d stand behind their engines, but seeing all these comments is really discouraging. Is there no remuneration or way to hold this company accountable?!!!

Now they want to give me a goodwill payment of $1,000 less than the rental reimbursement and won’t acknowledge they went over the 60 days so they owe the rental reimbursement and $50/day for inconvenience due to delays.

I have a 2017 kia soul with a gdi engine. I was driving down I 96 at mile marker 7 in michigan. The vehicle without any warning made a couple loud knocks and instantly stalled me and my 2 year old grand daughter right on the highway with terrible traffic. It was 90 degrees and even hotter inside the vehicle. The tow truck driver did not speak English very well and took 1.5 hours to get to the vehicle. Had it looked at and there were metal shavings g in the oil and a oil filter was clocked with metal also. This engine had just had an oil change 1 month ago. The tech also stated there was poor drilled holes attaching the valve cover to the heads which are all contaminating the whole engine with metal fragments. No wonder the engine was ruined.

I was approved in March of 2021. On August 2nd, a week prior to checks going out I was sent an email saying they are now denying me because it was not an approved Hyundai dealership. What?? The bills clearly state it was a Hyundai dealership. The dealership even tried to email them. Then they gave other reasons why my approval was overturned. I’m waiting for a date for my arbitration. I am so exhausted from fighting this. I would never buy another Hyundai for this reason.

My Hyundai Santa Fe Sport engine locked up.I had to pay $621.00 for towing charges. Hyundai paid to get my engine & turbo replaced. I filed a claim for reimbursement of my towing charges in April. In July I received an email requesting more documentation. I sent them all my invoices & copies of my towing charges again in August before the deadline. I sent them by certified mail. The end of August I received another email stating that my claim was denied because they did not receive the documents by the deadline. I sent it within the time frame, but they still denied my claim.Last week I received my receipt from them marked Sept 28th. I am having UPS track it for me because I am sure it did not take a month for them to receive it.When I checked my claim on the Theta Settlement website it had the claim as pending. But now they denied it. But I will appeal it. They should note on their website that all claims are denied.

My engine locked up a month ago, it’s been at the dealership. They had us contact the warranty department and said they will replace the engine at no charge. When we called the warranty department they then said they would only cover half of the repair. We kept getting different reasons until the last representative told us they were not going to cover any of it because we have 158k miles on the car and the extended warranty was only to 150k. What are my options? Am I eligible for a claim?

My claim for engine fire was showing green “Approved” for a few months. Two weeks ago I got claim denied email because they did not find “engine fire” event in the Carfax report. I have send the the official police report from the responding officer. There the fire is described, the vehicle is identified by VIN and license plate. I also send them pictures with the license plate visible and the fire fighters still on the scene and plenty of foam around. Also visible the front of the car melting with the remaining car intact. They take Carfax over the official police report. I only had liability insurance so insurance claim was never filed and Carfax would not have a record. I gave them copy of my insurance too but they don’t seem to care.
Where can I complain? In my opinion this is clearly an attempt to defy the Court order? Can anyone tell me where should I file a complain?

Tried to get appointment with Hyundai dealer local to me all 4 said no appointments available to even look at my car for 2 weeks. So 1 week after replacing second battery i was stranded on side of road. Had car towed to a 3rd party garage on 6/30/21 to have starter replaced, also had car towed. With a total out of cost of $580.43. I did not get gar back till 7/13/21, since starter had to be rebuilt as one could not be found for my vehicle anywhere . Only for Fuel Pump to go out, thank god i kept that 2 week out appt. I uploaded that receipt only to be told it was excepted, just need to go back on line and file a 3rd party reimbursement claim. I called back next day and explained that is what i did do. The rep said oh yes i see your information here. Finally got it to upload after trying for weeks to get website to except the upload. Called back next day and was told that it was approved only problem is i did it on the 10th of August, was told cut off was 8/9/21. Was going to get with her supervisor to find out some answers for me would call me right back. 2 hours later, i called back and got a very rude male on the phone and told me,” my car due to some class action settlement was not covered. Said even though i purchased extra warranty, no longer valid, unless my engine is seized up. I knew not a thing about this settlement. He told me that my car is not covered by warranty at all unless engine failure… HMMMM. . This was on 8/13/21. I continued to ask what my rights were and he stated at this time I have none, since my care was part of this settlement. Which I nor my co-owner never got emails or mail to tell us of such…..

Hyundai finally updated the engine settlement site and included info on when payments might go out. Still dependent on whether any appeals are filed. People with approved claims might start seeing money in August.

The Settlement was approved by the Court and Judgment was entered on June 10, 2021. Payments for approved claims will be mailed 30 days after the Effective Date which occurs when all appeals are exhausted. The deadline to appeal the judgment is July 12, 2021. If no appeals are filed payments will begin August 10, 2021 for claims that have been processed.

I bought a 2016 sonata brand new, and paid the whole amount that day in cash, almost $37,000 plus an extended warranty. the first month and a half they had the car because they couldn’t get the navigation system working. I get it back and about 6 months in around 35,000 miles my engine seized. the dealership said I had metal shards in my oil, also that their warranty , or the extended warranty I paid for would not cover the engine. so I paid another $10,000 cash for a new engine. drives ok for a year and a half and engine blows again. now I don’t have money for a new one so it sits until I find out about recall. in February of 2021 dealership picks up my car and they have had it ever since but won’t fix it. I have been without a car for over a year now and it is destroying my life. I live outside of town so walking and public transportation is no option. I rely on uber and Lyft for everything and it has cost me thousands. I should have gotten a loaner but at first the dealership said they just had to get more loaner since they had so many recalls sent in, so I waited , and weeks later it changed to “you don’t qualify for a loaner”. which I know is untrue. I get no where with corporate or the dealerships. I feel I should sue but I’m told I can’t because of binding arbitration? I dream of getting the call that they r fixing my car and reimbursing me for the second engine I purchased, but I fell that day is far far off. I also feel it would not b adequate. this has cost me in ways u can’t imagine that I don’t have time to explain now. only to say full reimbursement for every dollar I spent toward the car and then double it , and it may come close and I feel that is me being very generous to huyandai. anyway please pray that we all get what is deserved by us for this ordeal. and if anyone can post any advice it would be greatly appreciated. thank you and good luck.

You send them the dealer paperwork showing the car was towed in and the dealer did not give a loaner car for the whole 14 days. Please someone help me to understand

My claim for reimbursement was denied because as Hyundai states a loan car was given while my Santa Fe engine was getting fixed but with a loan car there were restrictions; with me it was no out of state travel. During the wait period I had to travel out of state leading to using rental vehicles
for each trip. I submitted my claim for reimbursement for using a rental car on these occasions and my claim was denied because a loan car was provided. If this is not an inconvenience and cause to pay my rental expenses I don’t know what is. I am extremely upset and dissatisfied with how I was treated and denied to no fault of my own. I am never purchasing and vehicles under this company and any affiliations.

My daughters 2015 Hyundai Sonata started having the same issues as some of ya’ll stated back in Feb. we took it to a shop (not Hyundai but a reputable shop) they did $1600 worth of work on it never mentioning these recalls. A few weeks later it started messing up again (almost the same issues) had a friend put it on his computer he said she needed her oil changed. She took it the next day had her oil changed seemed the problem was solved until this passed Sunday night. She was coming home from work suddenly smelled really strong gas smell, contributed it to being stopped at a red light next to a gas station. Drove it another couple of miles, went across a railroad track and it started acting up loosing power, ( just like the other 2 times) she pulled off on the side of the road and got out. She said smoke was boiling out from under the car and it smelled strongly of gas. She left it there, a few hours later we went to get it. I opened the door and a gas smell almost knocked me out. I got in and cranked it put it in drive and it died, tried 2 more times to crank it and the rpms would not go up finally on the 3rd try it cranked and I took off, headed for her boyfriends house maybe a mile away. When I arrived there I put it in reverse and backed in his yard because I knew it was going to have to be towed to the shop. When I got out there was a puddle and trail of gas from where I stopped and backed up. Called Hyundai, her VIN # shows up on recall list, had it towed there yesterday. Waiting to hear back from them whether or not I’m going to have to fork out some more $$$ before I complete the settlement form. We have owned Hyundai’s for years and have always loved them but I own a 2015 Tuscon and now I’m worried I’m going to have the same issues. I don’t know what to do about it?!?!

This car was maintained great with oil changes religiously performed, yet the engine blew at 137000 miles. I had a used engine put into it and figured that was it. Then I found out about this class-action and submitted my paperwork in August, 2020. I’ve been waiting since like all of you. My update read pending for awhile and now reads process. Everything seems to suggest that the decision has been finalized, so yes, where is the reimbursement? The latest date for submitting is in April, 2021. Will payments be made after this?

We own a 2013 Hyundai Sante Fe Sport 2.4. On Feb 5, 2021 we were driving on the highway when the motor suddenly revved up to 5000 rpm and the car lost all power and slowed down. The car can still run but will not go over 2000 rpm and the engine is knocking. When reading the class action suit, our mechanic said this is exactly what this suit is about. We have spoken with the class action group and they have informed us that we are eligible for this suit. We now have the vehicle at Hyundai dealer and will have them look at it and await judgement on this suit.

We are very nervous though that Hyundai will pay nothing on the dollar for the claim when we feel this is a known issue by Hyundai and should cover the entire 100% of costs. We are out a vehicle right now and could be out the price of a replacement engine when we have followed the maintenance to a T and this is a known defect. If not covering a 100% of replacement then we would go to our own mechanic for 65% of the cost. If the suit is approved and we proceed with Hyundai to have it replaced we are putting good faith in Hyundai that they will stand behind this and cover the whole cost. If not we will be trading off and it wont be for a Hyundai. We hope it does not get there as we enjoy the car and parents have a Hyundai too.

I have the exact same year and model car. My engine seized on the freeway in 2018. The dealership replaced the engine short block for free. I also got a free rental car. Back in 2018 Hyundai wasn’t acknowledging this problem as openly as they are now, so you shouldn’t have a problem getting it fixed without cost, especially since everyone now knows about this issue. Despite the initial problems with this car, I consider myself pretty lucky to now have a car with a lifetime warranty on the short block engine. I’ll be holding on to this car for as long as I can now.

Get receipts from your dealership about the repairs. It does not have to be in the shop that long unless you are asking for compensation for that, which is minimal, compared to the cost of the repairs.

Ever since I had a new engine put in my car, my car hasn’t been the same. It acts like it doesn’t want to go when pressing the gas pedal right after (was told it was the eco mode), then my dash started to crack, now is extremely cracked which has an air bag, gas gage has a mind of its own, burning a severe amount of oil a week so there is no point in “changing the oil”, oil light NEVER once comes on letting me know its low, no oil on my driveway or under the hood, interior dome light sometimes doesn’t shut off, the brake lights short out on a monthly basis and get pulled over by the cops all the time. Now with only 50,000 miles on the “new engine”, I take it back to the dealership because its smoking when I crank it, doesn’t accelerate sometimes going down the road when I press the gas, then starts smoking, headlights flicker, engine light stays on and low tire light stays on (even after getting new tires & alignment). Took it in yesterday, Hyundai is stating my Oxygen Sensors, Catalytic Converter & Gaskets and Intake Manifold need to be replaced at $3,177. The car isn’t even worth that much. This is NOT the reason why my car is using excessive amounts of oil, smoking when I crank it and acts like the engine is about to blow up. THEN they come back to tell me it needs the above, PLUS an engine replacement but out of “Goodwill” they will only charge me 20% ($2,000) with no loaner car. Its going on 3 weeks now. The Corporate Office is USELESS and VERY rude. I have a voicemail stating “This is the highest customer service department and once the decision has be made, those decisions are FIANL and its up to you to decline or accept our offer.” IT’S THE ENGINE, AGAIN! Which then lead to other issues! I Will NEVER buy another Hyundai AGAIN!! This car has caused nothing but money and time, complete waste of junk!

Sounds like you’re describing my vehicle. It all started when I took my car into a dealership for a recall. They told me I needed 4 new tires and my brakes and rotors needed to be done. They also fixed my e-brake that day. They claimed they were doing an update. Fast forward, my car would not go when I pressed gas. The e-brake was not fixed yet I paid 2700+ for the services. I then visited another Hyundai dealership who told me that the dealership that I first visited had used after market parts on my car and that they cannot help me to resolve the issues. They had my car for over a month and decided they were going to charge me to fix the exhaust. My car still was not fixed. They then told me they’re going to place a request to get the engine replaced. Long story short, my car still had the issue and now I can hear a knocking sound. I spent 1600.00 at the second dealership and I still have issues.

Days off work, personally towed to the dealer, ×2 35 miles away, linked the car, but hey would you drive it more than 100 miles from home

I had a 2015 Sonata and it completely died on me in the middle of traffic. I was very angry at the fact the car hadn’t reached 50k yet, a full tank of gas, washed, and a recent oil change. I immediately traded it in after this incident for a 2017 Sonata and sure enough last year the same problem. The car began to stall and not want to pull sometimes, I immediately traded it in for the car of my dreams which isn’t a Hyundai so I can’t be reimbursed for that car. Hyundai should pull all of these cars indefinitely or invest in building better engines.

I have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, a couple of days ago i was driving it and i started to hear a knocking sound, i parked opened up the hood and sure enough, the knocking was coming from the engine. I tried to make it home but i didn’t. I just died on me. i called my mechanic and he said that most likely my motor is “done” he mentioned that isn’t unusual on these cars. Now what? Shame on Hyundai for such a poor engine, how do i get onboard to get compensation or a solution?

I have a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport that has had a recurring problem with the “check engine” light coming on due to the “thermostat sensor” apparently. I fixed the problem back in February but in June the check engine light came back on and indicated the same problem when I had it diagnosed at Autozone. Now yesterday, while cleaning my car out at a gas station the car did not turn back on at all, I don’t believe it was my battery, rather the alternator. But there have been no previous signs of the alternator going bad whatsoever and my car hasn’t been driven enough for the alternator to already need to be replaced. It’s really the check engine light that baffles me because I thought the problem was fixed. I’m not entirely sure what to do here.

My 2016 Hyundai went for a oil change in May of 2020 at the dealership I bought it from like I always do. After, it started having issues where it would make grinding and other weird noises in June of 2020. I gave it more time to see if it would go away but it didn’t. I called in July stating that what was going on. They told me it doesn’t sound good and I needed to get it in the shop ASAP but they didn’t have any availability at that location till a week from when I called them. I took it back on July 17th to be checked at another Hyundai dealership that I don’t normally go to because they could fit me in. Come to find out the car was missing 2 quarts of oil. They stated “it looks like the other Hyundai dealership didn’t fill your call all the way or the oil is burning too quick and something else is going on with it.” They told me to keep and eye on it because they didn’t see any leaks and to let them know if the oil keeps getting low quick. My dad checked the oil on August 9th and it was already halfway empty and he wanted to give it another week. So we waited to check it on August 21st and come to find out it was on low, so that Saturday August 22nd he wanted to put oil in it. Before I could meet him the car started again with the noises and would only go no more that 35 miles per hour (I pulled over and tried to let it rest and drove again, it did the same thing). I called Hyundai and they said it sound like a it may be a engine issue but they would need to do a oil consumption test on it. After it was toad and they looked at it on August 24th they said it needs a Catalytic converter which would cost over $2000.00. They said this still doesn’t answer why the oil is burning so fast and would still need to do do an oil consumption test but that part would need to be fixed first. So it still could be that the engine needs to be replaced but I don’t want to keep putting money into and then find out later. In general I can’t afford to fix the catalytic converter and definitely not an engine (if it would need that). Hyundai should be the ones to pay for it. I don’t know if I can still fill out a class action suit for this issue or not.

I also had a 2016 Sonata, I traded it in a week ago, because it was burning so much oil, I drove 1k miles and had to put 4 quarts of oil in it. Which is INSANE! I have never had a car that I had to put oil in it between changes, let alone a car that is only 4 years old. I started the oil consumption test at the dealership, but I ended up trading it in, because it was becoming so stressful for me to get in the car, it always acted like it didn’t want to go, and I have a little boy, and I don’t want to be stranded or take that type of chance, which is why I bought the damn car to begin with. I started my claim today, I literally got the lawsuit stuff in the mail the day my car broke down on me, it broke down about 1200 miles after my oil change because the spark plug that was just changed a couple months prior was so soaked with oil it caused the engine to miss fire.

I purchased my 2012 Kia Optima brand new off the lot. I kept up with maintenance as recommend however around 2017 I took the vehicle in to be serviced and they said the oil tank was empty. I didn’t think anything of it at the time so I continued on with my normal routine. Between the following two services my car shut off and stall a few times so I took it in to be serviced again, and once again I was informed that my oil tank was empty. sometime during this process there was a recall on Kia engines, they checked and to no avail ” nothing was wrong with it”. Now, keep in mind i’ve been using the Kia dealership service department to take care of maintenance, so they have all documented history. I was not until I pushed that they decided to run a test to see if the oil is burning or if its just a leak. Two weeks later when I returned per the dealerships, they found that the oil was depleted. At this point I no longer have a warranty, the car is paid off, and im not in position to afford $9000 for a rebuild or to finance a new vehicle.

I have been having electrical and alll kinda of engine problems with my 2011 sonata also. Purchased it in 2013 unaware of all the issues and it has been one thing after another since.
Their solution originally since my oil was void of any metal shavings was simply the extended the manufacturer recommended amount of oil for the model and put in a new in a new dip stick with an appropriate fill line. Less than a couple months after the fact my engine seized at a stop sign…. now both times I had just had an oil change. Lone behold the mileage was at 122,500 roughly. Just outside the manufacturer warranty that they extended out for this issue to 120,000 miles.
I originally brought it to the dealership I purchased it from, as I had an after market warranty, but the manufacturer had to cover it under theirs as they are aware of the issue and trying to avoid as much cost as possible.
Now keep in mind they did cover the repairs but certainly did not even do so much as offer me a loaner as a result. Mind you they also had my vehicle for a number of weeks to accomplish the repair, at least 3 I’m sure.
Of course I would have to track down receipts etc because I have had the work done by family and or friends because my income is so low that I was struggling to even pay off the remainder of my vehicle.
The engine has since been replaced, but I am experiencing the same types of issues that now it sounding like the transmission is going. Again I have an extended lifetime power train warranty… but if it’s all stemming from this darn issue, Hyundai needs to fix it.
Now the claims of it being O2 sensor related is garbage. Sure they need to be replaced but it in no way correlated to what errors I’m sure are being read my the vehicle.
Unfortunately complications with the wiring etc have also started to show up and I’m getting thoroughly concerned.
I have literally had to love out of this vehicle, that’s how near and dear I cherish it…. and all these recalls have been making my road to self sufficiency extremely difficult and my poor baby is in rough shape.
…. I just found out about the darn class action suit too… and should have been getting a part of that settlement. Do you know the things that I could do with that money right now.
I literally could have my car fixed and looking like I just drove it off the lot. Instead everything combined is stacking up to costs that are more than my present net worth for gods sakes far more expensive than what the car is presently worth. I recently had to replace the power steering motor coupler too. Now while it took my dad and I a Saturday evening. I’m great full for the repairs. But it’s not enough.

This happened on 07/11/2020 still not heard anything and have not been offered a vehicle so been without for almost a month and this is of no fault of mine. Thank you.

I’m having a similar issue with a 2013 Tucson with 69,000 miles. The engine seized up out of nowhere. It’s always up to date with oil changes. Hyundai approved a new engine finally because we are the original owners but we are still waiting on the vehicle to be repaired. Then today we were told they don’t cover rental vehicles. So far we are out over a thousand dollars for the tow of the vehicle (broke down on I 80 in the middle of nowhere) and now a rental car for who knows how long.

Sorry to know you are having the same problems with your Hyundai Tucson hopefully they will soon take care of this for you. When it happened to mine it was out of nowhere going down highway and just seized hopefully Hyundai will make it good and replace engine.

I’m in the same boat you’re in, my engine blew up also. I have a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe with 110k on it. Hyundai should still be held accountable for any vehicle on the road with this issue.

I have been fighting with Hyuandai since June 25TH 2022. They took 88 days to fix my engine. I paid for rentals and they said it will be covered, $40/day.

Same with me, I had to replace battery at 22000 miles outside of Hyundai, then replaced it again at 45500 miles @ $325 a piece.

The Settlement was approved by the Court and Judgment was entered on June 10, 2021. Payments for approved claims will be mailed 30 days after the Effective Date which occurs when all appeals are exhausted. The deadline to appeal the judgment is July 12, 2021.

No one wants to wait several years until they figure this stuff out.

My engine blew in July, 2018. I tried dealing with a Hyundai dealer, but they wouldn’t do anything because the car was beyond 100,000 miles.

This engine is under lifetime warranty and I should have a rental. This is very upsetting cause I don’t have money to rent a car.

I Do not feel safe driving it. Contacted Hyundai and said it was not on recall list nothing they could do.
Also experiencing electrical problems since I first got in 2011. Ac will turn on out of no where when driving. Took in but never able to replica problem so they said they never could figure out problem to this day ac turns on randomly . very frustrating but again was told not under warranty.

Not being a mechanic or car person, I’m not sure? Also, what if there could be a problem in the future, prior to the settlement or even after the settlement. They make sure to warranty it for 3 years 36k miles so they don’t have to pay for it because all paint issues start at 50k and above. Then I get a letter about this engine defect and said im going to cut my losses and bought a new vehicle today!
